Whilst no doubt it is still theoretically possible to get all of the nutritional goodness from the foods that you eat, research shows that in actual fact, the citizens of most Western countries don’t even come close!
For example, data compiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows that at least 40% of Americans routinely consume less than 60% of the recommended daily intake of essential nutrients.
In addition, for selected nutrients, over 80% of the US population who fall into specific age group ‘bands’ were proven to consume less than the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of the same selected essential nutrients.
It is important to appreciate that there is a very big difference here between calorific intake and nutritional value.
Most Westerners consume far too many calories, and they do so in all the wrong ways, taking on almost all of their energy in the form of saturated fats and proteins plus excessive amounts of carbohydrates.
At the same time, we all fall well short of the amount of nutrients that we really need, with vitamins, minerals and the necessary trace elements being most noticeable in our diets mainly by their shortage or total absence.
For this reason alone, it makes sense to put back what is clearly missing from our daily diet with a broad-spectrum supplement, one that provides all the known vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in properly balanced proportions.
